Google Explained

The Google search results can be broken down in to 2 distinct areas. In the above image, the results in the red box are what's called PPC (Pay Per Click) advertising. Site owners or the agency that manages the website, will have an account setup with Google adwords. As the name suggests, a cost is is incurred every time someone visits your website via one of your ads.

SEO (in the blue box) are what's referred to as organic search results and are based on Google's analysis of your website and those of your competition. The algorithm used is very complex and is designed to offer the person searching the most relevant results.
